We are the Toronto Public Space Initiative believe that citizens and organizations can benefit from accessible and practical information on how to engage with public space (parks, streets, alleyways, and other types of space). Naturally, these spaces are governed by many complex policies and decisions made at City Hall. Therefore, we also include guidance information on policy and how to engage City Hall.
Our ongoing creation of ‘User Guides’ to public space will help those wishing to engage public space in the following ways:
- Creating new public space
- Revitalizing or improving existing public space
- Community engagement in parks and other spaces
- Events, protests, sports, permits
- Stewardship
- Advocacy
We encourage those undertaking advocacy, stewardship, and place making to review all of the guides as they are sometimes interrelated in ways that the sophisticated advocate or project manager can creatively take advantage of.
