The efforts of TPSI’s Advocacy Division and the Trinity Bellwoods Community Association to advocate on behalf of public space and prevent Fresh Restaurant from permanently expanding onto a public right-of-way were successful. On January 10th 2012 TEYCC moved to indefinitely defer the proposal by Fresh restaurant, essentially ending it.
The move follows the advice of TPSI, TBCA, and City Staff to reject the proposal, in part because it would remove an important patio from the community and set a precedent allowing businesses to encroach onto public space with permanent building expansions, threatening both public space and outdoor patio culture in the city with permanent indoor enclosures.
